Vauxhall Gardens

Extension & Refurbishment

The house is a 1960s detached, gable-fronted house in South Tonbridge. The existing house has limited space at first floor and the existing kitchen and living spaces has no physical connection with the existing garden. The client has a young family and was in need of additional bedrooms as well as improved living spaces and connections with the garden.

The proposals retain the prominent, gable form of the existing house whilst extending at first floor, with a modern addition - clad in metal standing seam cladding - to provide additional bedrooms including a master suite with Juliet balcony. The massing of the new elements are intended to respect the original house, with combination windows/rooflights and modest dormers to maximise internal space.

Our proposals also reconfigure the ground floor layout to provide an open-plan kitchen diner and separate lounge space with a direct connection to the garden. The front elevation is also improved with timber cladding to the base and new entrance canopy.

A Planning application was made in August 2023.
